A guide for exploring new Post-Graduate courses in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology

Guidance

We are in the vanguard of automation and hence the demand for Artificial Intelligence, algorithms, databases, etcetera has been growing. Is it possible for Computer Science/ Information Technology graduates to compete for jobs in this technological advancement with basic knowledge?

There are ample specializations coming up for CS/IT graduates in job roles like data scientists, computer system analysts, database administrators, software developers, web developers, and so on and so forth. Pursuing these specializations/courses can be more helpful for the future of work. It is actually fascinating to find courses on offer that cluster various interconnected subjects and specializations. For instance, a post graduate program - MSc (DIGITAL SOCIETY) offered at International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB profile / web).

Willing to get admission in different courses away from the mainstream engineering?

Firstly, the candidates have to apply for preferred colleges from their respective college websites. Most reputed institutes conduct their entrance test for admissions. A national level entrance test- GATE is also considered by some institutes for shortlisting the candidates.

Here are some of the colleges/ Institutes offering various post-graduation courses & specializations for Computer Science/ Information Technology students:-

  1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)- It is the discipline of computer perception, reasoning, and action, or the intelligence demonstrated by machines. Computer functions such as reasoning, natural language, automated learning and problem solving are developed by human intelligence.

  1. Machine Learning (ML)- Machine learning is an interdisciplinary field that brings together various computational and mathematical topics including statistics, optimization, algorithms, network theory, graph theory and information theory. It is an application of AI that provides systems the ability to learn from experience without being explicitly programmed.

  1. Cloud Computing- It is the practice of  using a network of remote servers hosted on the Internet for data storage, management and computing power, rather than a local server or a personal computer. Due to the young nature of the discipline, the demand for people with cloud computing skills is high.

  1. Cyber Security- It is “a computing-based discipline involving technology, people, information, and processes to enable assured operations in the context of adversaries. It involves the creation, operation, analysis, and testing of secure computer systems.

  1. Data Sciences- It is the field of study that combines domain expertise, programming skills, and knowledge of mathematics and statistics to extract meaningful insights from data. Data science is related to data mining and big data. Data science practitioners apply machine learning algorithms to produce artificial intelligence systems to perform tasks that ordinarily require human intelligence.

  1. Computational Engineering & Networking- It is a multidisciplinary course which provides expertise in mathematical modeling, software implementation, numerical analysis, visualization and validation of results, algorithm development, and many more. The course has main role in many scientific discovery processes and engineering designing.
