Art and Science are classfied under silos at least at the rudimentary stage of understanding and learning at our schools. But, Sai is clear that these divisions of what constitutes science and arts are often mind-made

Interview

It is indeed a matter of great happiness that Sai Shravanam, an accomplished music producer, composer, instrumentalist and sound engineering expert was awarded Government of Tamil Nadu's Kalaimamani award recently.

Sai Shravanam is a self taught learner of Tabla who idolises the One & Only, The Zakir Hussain. Sai was on the team, as Sound Recordist/Additional Engineer, in the Oscar Award winning Life of Pi and other Hollywood productions. It is fair to say that Life of Pi includes a made-in-Chennai music track. The recording and sound editing for the movie “LIFE OF PI” won the academy award for the best soundtrack composed by Mychael Danna.

Art and Science are classfied under silos at least at the rudimentary stage of understanding and learning at our schools. But, Sai is clear that these divisions of what constitutes science and arts are often mind-made. For instance, in his website about Resound India, Sai's quote is prominently stated upfront:

“ Sound Engineering is both an art and science. Why? It is an art because there are no limitations in being creative. It is a science because there are methods to be followed” – Sai Shravanam

In this conversation, Sai Shravanam expands on this topic. Do listen in.
